The Rain's are Here!

>> Friday, July 31, 2009

So the monsoon has well and truly dropped on us here in the Kathmandu Valley, and I have realised that I need to keep an umbrella at every single place I go to regularly. Just because the sun is shining doesn't mean that the sky will not cloud over and dump buckets of water on me within minutes. So I've counted and I need 7 umbrellas: an umbrella for my bicycle (I only need one hand for steering and breaking!), one for the scooter, one at work, two at home (in case hubby steals one), one at hubby's shop, and I would really like to keep one at the local grocer...just in case!

So here are some beautiful and unique umbrellas that would suit me just fine for this monsoon season. The umbrellas come in all different sizes with different handles and fabrics all handmade by Yoshihisa Iida, a Japanese man who makes gorgeous parasols too.

and the Cupcake saga continues...

>> Thursday, July 30, 2009

Firstly, I would just like to say that the cupcake discussion over at daydreamlily was so interesting and I'm so glad that Liss elaborated on my post and got some good responses on it. I mean now we all know about the cupcake situation worldwide, and that cupcakes aren't even that popular in Spain...yet! If you haven't checked out the discussion, you can find it here.

But because of her link to my blog I was so overwhelmed to check my sitemetre (which I promised myself I would get rid of), and see that sooo many hits on my blog yesterday! I tell you, it's the small things that make me happy :)

Now that's Zimmermann with 2 N's

>> Monday, July 27, 2009

I think me and the Zimmermann sister's must have the same problem. I too have a double N at the end of my maiden surname and always have to make sure people add it on despite receiving strange looks...such small detail that can make a huge difference and can even cause an identity crisis!
Here is some Zimmermann love, for when the sun shines...

I wanna go to Mexicooo!

>> Friday, July 24, 2009

You're probably surprised by this, especially considering the current 'swine flu' situation, but it has always been on my 'must visit list'. As a beach lover, the fact that it's surrounded by the Pacific Ocean and the Caribbean Sea is the reason why it's a winner to me (oh how poetic!).

Anyway, I'm going to gather a few friends and start saving so we can bunk up at this A M A Z I N G location in Mexico called, Costa Careyes. It's right on the Pacific Ocean and you can stay in a castle, villa, casita (small one-bedroom house) or bungalow and be incredibly spoiled with your own butler, chef and maid. It boasts to be more than five stars and it's Mexican inspired decor is so chic and stylish and creates a relaxing, but yet fun atmosphere.
I'm personally vying for the castles which start at $7,000 a night...or maybe a villa will do!

Personal fave is the Sol de Oriente castle and the La Huerta villa, pics below...

Battle of the Cupcakes

>> Thursday, July 23, 2009

Cupcakes have become a booming industry, not so much in terms of profit, but in the amount of cupcake specialty stores that are opening around the world serving delectable flavours and tiny sprinkled delights.

Tea parties, weddings, birthdays and just for treats; there never seems to be an end to the possible occasions at which a cupcake could feature. I guess that's why the need for many cupcake stores. Last time I was in Australia, it felt like there were cupcake stores popping up on every corner which makes me assume that it's not only me that gets sucked in by their utter cuteness and colourful decorations. But seriously, is there really a need for so many stores? And doesn't anyone else think that it's a bit ridiculous that they charge you $4 for some flour, sugar and icing that you can gulp down in one bite?

Don't get me wrong, I love cupcakes and I admit I've bought into the craze by having a couple of cupcakes with my friends and ooh-ing and ahh-ing at them through the window whenever I see a store, but here is a blogster who wrote 'It's Time to Shut Up About Cupcakes' that has put my current feelings into words perfectly:

You’ve got co-workers chattering about the cupcake they had last night. Meredith Viera is on TV dishing about the cupcake party she threw for her girlfriends. Newspapers are writing non-stop reviews of the hot new cupcake bakery in town. Your friends with blogs are obsessed too. At this point, it’s gotten so ridiculous that you can’t even ride in an elevator without seeing someone carrying a little 4 inch-by-4 inch cupcake box – that every other woman in the elevator is salivating over like a pack of blood-thirsty wolves.

I GET IT. No seriously, I GET IT. Cupcakes are delicious and soooooo yummy! OMG pink frosting!

That’s not the point.

What I really want to know is WTF happened? I managed to never once hear the word “cupcake” between the ages of 12 and 25. Then all of a sudden I wake up one day and can’t walk 20 feet down the street without hearing “Cupcake, cupcake, cupcake. Cupcake, cupcake, cupcake. Ooooooo Cupcake!”

Newsflash: Cupcakes are delicious today, they were delicious yesterday, and they were delicious 15 years ago. Nothing has changed. It’s just like in 1998 when everyone was smoking Cigars and celebrities all wanted to appear on the cover of Cigar Afficianado with a Cuban in their mouth. Now every popular actress wants to appear on the cover of Cupcake Quarterly with frosting from a Magnolia cupcake smeared on her face.

Haha this really made me laugh and I think he got the cupcake-obsession situation down pat. But you know what, at the end of the day, those sneaky little-colourful-delicious-looking treats always win people (and me!) over. Here are two cute cupcake boutique's that have got my mouth watering as I stare at them on the computer screen: Lola's in London and Little Cupcakes in Melbourne which I will pay a visit to when I go home.

Wedding Memories

>> Monday, July 20, 2009

Today I just received our official wedding photos - F I N A L L Y - and it brought back so many wonderful and blurry (because of time - not because of alcohol!) memories. I know that in previous posts I have gone on about how I wish I did this, wish I did that...but from revisiting our day through the photos, I realised that it was a beautiful day. I loved the vibrant coloured theme of our wedding and the relaxed atmosphere - the less stress the better! Our photographer was Kent Marcus and here are some photos from the big day...
p.s. Jamie-Lynn: if you are reading this, I have some HILARIOUS photos of Dean!

500 Days of Summer

>> Thursday, July 16, 2009

I am very excited about this new movie coming out tomorrow (in the US) called 500 Days of Summer. It stars Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Zooey Deschanel and pretty much looks like the cutest movie ever! And I'm not usually one for Romantic films, but this indie-type flick has got me hook, line and sinker. Can't wait to see it!

Petal Power

Just for today, I thought I'd switch to Southern Hemisphere mode and mentally prepare myself for the upcoming Spring season 'down under'. Apparently here in Kathmandu we are coming into Spring too, with the months of September/October being just as beautiful as March/April. And as spring blooms (I couldn't help myself with the lame pun), so does the flower fusion of prints and accessories. Here are some of my floral inspired faves I've seen around the place...

I just finished tidying up our house and by the end of it was a bit frustrated at the bric-a-brac furniture - thats what you get for volunteering :) But I found hope and visual pleasure through this beautiful blog of designer Jennifer Ramos called, MadeByGirl. It is full of photos of inspiration and gorgeous decors.

I miss Winter

When I saw this picture I immediately thought, "I wonder what it feels like to be cold..."

An endless summer this year is making my winter wardrobe feel neglected. I just feel like putting some tights on, a dress and snuggling into a big warm coat and wrapping one of my new pashmina's around my neck.

This day will come soon enough!

Swine flu gets chic

>> Thursday, July 9, 2009

Ok, so I just want to say that I just found out that Enrique Iglesias is half Filipino - what the! After all this time no one bothered to inform me, a fellow half Filipina, of this fact! Unbelievable! I know, I'm slow...

But after a nasty cold this week and even thinking I had Swine flu - only now do they come out with a wearable swine flu kit - and I admit, its the brand that does it for me.

The French luxury house has issued all their international staff, who are currently in Paris on an A/W 09-10 buying trip, with a very special (and let’s hope limited-edition) swine flu kit. The Hermès-orange bag contains a face mask, a bottle of hand sanitiser and travel guide pamphlet.

Up, up and away!

>> Wednesday, July 8, 2009

How beautiful are these sky lanterns? Apparently they are used in special ceremonies in Asia, but these days you can find this new fairytale tradition at weddings. Meant to be a symbol of luck, guests can write special messages on them, then light em' up and send them away!

Such a perfect way to end a perfect wedding day. I wish my reception was beach-side, where we could've released these into the night sky, and watched the twinkling reflection in the water...*sigh*
