Bookshelf Porn

>> Friday, July 30, 2010 Not the kind of porn you put on the shelf, but rather the shelf itself! I found Bookshelf Porn via Oh Joy!'s tweets (You must see her blog, it's what inspired me to start blogging!) and have been trawling through the pages of bookshelves all morning. Some beautiful, some classic, some broken and some blue. I completely agree with the following quote, nothing will ever replace acutally turning the paper page of a book...

{my personal favourite, above}

Featuring a book on your bookshelf is akin to displaying a trophy. You’ve accomplished something in reading a book; it feels like a victory. The opportunity to display your literary conquests in unique or unexpected ways is something I will greatly miss with e-readers.

I'm here!

>> Tuesday, July 27, 2010

I know I've been a bit slack, but I've just been so tired and busy with work, but I'm here! And I've found something inspiring and beautiful (and not just a pretty face)...

Who knew that Helena Christensen was half Peruvian? Well I didn't, those light freckles certainly fooled me, and did you know she takes photos? I guess lots of people take photos, but not everyone goes back to their heritage and takes photos to highlight climate change...unless you do (if you do - tell me about it!)?

Anyways the modeling beauty went to Peru in 2009 to take photos and draw attention to the effects of climate change as an ambassador for Oxfam. Her exhibition was held in London in November 2009 and entitled, "Meltdown: Images of what we lose when the glaciers disappear."
And let me tell you, the things that we may lose are irreplaceable, priceless things that we can definitely have a hand in helping keep around.

So here is Helena Christensen as a photographer and her photos in Peru...and just a little note to think about this planet we live on...

"I start photographing all these cool little kids. Their cheeks are burned from constant exposure to the sun. Their clothes consist of layer upon layer of vividly coloured sweaters and skirts. They run around, shrieking with laughter chasing each other, whispering together."

Extract from Helena’s diary.

Maternal Inspiration

When I am pregnant (which won't be anytime soon!), I hope to look as glamorous as this...

Do you get The Zoe Report in your inbox? I do, and Zoe reminded me of Chanel's luxe sports range last week which really blows my mind away. Do I want nearly every single piece in the range (ok, maybe just one surfboard will do)? Yes I do! And as an avid basket baller player from way back, I am about to put the Chanel basketball on my birthday wish list so I can hang it on my wall :)

I really love that quilted satchel on the bike too ;)

I was so excited to visit Topshop's website this morning for my weekly perusal, to find a sneak peek of their Autumn/Winter collection (and also a new website layout for Topshop - a change is as good as a holiday!).

Let me tell you that the camel cape is numero uno on my winter shopping list!

Just a Minute in...July

>> Tuesday, July 13, 2010

Sorry for my lack of posting lately! I've been rather uninspired and don't want to just slap any old thing on my lovely little blog. Although I have been inspired recently to blog about life in Nepal so if you have a minute you should wander over to Beryl Abroad. But anyway, I just took a minute to do this...

I've finally finished Sex & the City so last night I tried to watch Cougar Town with Courtney Cox...very strange show - and I couldn't stop looking at Courtney's non moving face?!
An apple because I just read an article about how an apple a day truly keeps the doctor away!
Reading... Trying to get through 'Eat, Pray, Love' before the movie comes out in August (Trailer below - so excited!). By Elizabeth Gilbert.
Listening... Travie McCoy's new album, Lazarus.
Wanting... Mint coloured nail polish like the photo above, oh so summery!
Excited about... French classes starting next week! One hour everyday for 10 weeks, this is going to require major dedication! At least I can cross that one off my resolution list!

'Just a minute' is a fabulous idea from these ladies: click here and here...

Label Love // Sretsis

>> Monday, July 5, 2010

Have you heard of Sretsis? Here's a way to make you remember it easier, it's actually 'sisters' spelled backwards! The brand was founded by three Thai sisters: Pim, Kly and Matina Sukhahuta with Pim having attended New York's Parson School of Design.

The clothes are fun and girly with a touch of whimsical, with prints on delicate fabric like silk chiffon and charmeuse. Sretsis', Spring/Summer 10 campaign was called, Make My Heart Melt, and that is exactly what the clothes made me do...

Mmm...makes me love everything about Thailand even more :)

The Waiting City

>> Thursday, July 1, 2010

I saw this movie over at Daydream Lily and I can't wait to see it. Since living in Nepal I am very into movies based in this region, especially India because I can relate to the imagery and most of the experiences that are encountered. The Waiting City looks really well made for an Australian movie (I had to say it!) and I was surprised that Isabel Lucas was in it too (along with other Aussie acting legends Radha Mitchell and Joel Edgerton). It comes out in cinemas in Australia July 15th...not sure how I'm going to get to see it, but I will find a way!

Daydream Lily describes it...
"...The Waiting City tells the story of an outwardly happy Australian couple who journey to India to collect their adopted baby. When they arrive in Kolkata they discover that the adoption arrangements have still to be finalised. Soon the intoxicating mystic power of the city pulls them in separate and unexpected directions and the vulnerability of their marriage begins to reveal itself... "
