Hey Yrusha!

>> Friday, August 28, 2009

So if you've signed up with Rachel Zoe's new website, you will be receiving her newsletter in your inbox daily. This week I was very excited to see one about sequiny sparkley leggings, but even better Rachel Zoe so kindly brought designer label Yrusha to my attention and then I fell in love...

I love the 'spirit' of their clothing which is: stylish, modern and elegant; laidback chic. A relaxed couture style...

Here are some of my faves from the Winter 09/10 campaign with the sequin leggings second last...

My first photoshoot

>> Wednesday, August 26, 2009

Last night I had my first photoshoot...like ever - in the history of Beryl.

It was the wierdest thing, not like I expected a 'photoshoot' to be like, but they were super unorganised and didn't warn me about the dresses (they weren't very nice to say the least), and that I could've brought my own and my own shoes! So in the end my friend ripped off this bow on the back of the dress and I just had to 'work it'. Did I mention I had to do my own hair? Lucky we were going for the 'wild' look! Anyways, awkward would be the best word to describe how I felt, but we got the job done and hopefully the shots turn out okay!

Unfortunately I don't have any photos yet, but they tell me that it's going to be part of the ad campaign for Nepal Fashion Week and is going to be in the newspaper next week and possibly on billboards, BILLBOARDS! Since I am my own greatest critic, if you see the pictures on here it means that they are half decent :)

Anyways I'm going to document how this whole process goes through my blog, because this may be my one and only chance! So please join me on this new journey...

Stand bold

>> Sunday, August 23, 2009

Oh I'm back and feeling very inspired! Had a quick visit this week to the India/Nepal border and visited some very unique tribal groups. Such lovely and humble people, seeing things like that makes me love my work so much :)

Anyways, these structured shouldered blazers have been around for a while now. The most memorable and 'popular' are from the French fashion house Balmain.
I think they look great, and give a sophisticated feel to any outfit. But, unfortunately for me, someone with broad German shoulders, it gives more of a 'I may knock someone out if I turn around too quickly' sort of vibe.
Here are some of my favourites:

Above is the ELIZABETH AND JAMES Belted Elizabeth Blazer or a cheaper option is the Zara/Balmain blazer which is about half the price. I love it! Instant chic!
On another note, something random but still newsworthy, is that in 2 weeks I'm going to be modeling for Nepal Fashion Week. Oh the expectation! And I would just like to say that I have no experience at all whatsoever! Crazy times I tell ya...

I can smell Autumn

Or Spring. Depending on which hemisphere you are in! But as the seasons change, so do the shops which bring in wonderful new clothing to rug up in (or bare more skin in). For the northern hemisphere-ians, here is the latest (and my favourite) Autumn/Winter 2009-2010 advertising campaigns...

It's my blog's birthday!

>> Sunday, August 16, 2009

It just occurred to me that it has been just over 6 months since I started this blessed blog - geez time flies!

I realised that the whole time I've been blogging, I haven't shared much about myself, so I thought I'd tell you how I got here and shed some light on the person on the other side of the screen...

I'm heading towards my mid-twenties, just graduated from university last year and scored myself a great (and crazy!) job with an aid organisation in Nepal. Then my serious boyfriend realised he couldn't live without me and proposed...we planned the wedding in 2 months and got married the day before we headed for Nepal... so if anyone knows how to throw together a wedding in a short amount of time, under lots of pressure, it would be me :)

So here I was, a newlywed trying to adjust to a new country, a new job (since I had been living the good student life for the past four years) and having a 'husband'. And from all of these new adjustments, the hardest thing was the lack of shopping centers and pretty clothes and shoes and little nick nacks that I used to see all the time (Nepal is a developing country, very beautiful - but very poor). So as one does, I turned to the internet where I could access all of the above and more and know that I could be up to date all the time. From all my browsing, I built up a wish-list of all the things I wanted from my virtual shopping and wanted to put them in a place where I could look and escape...

So 166 posts later and here I am! I have a day job and this is my thang on the side, and I've realised that since I started blogging I've been more up to date with the world's happenings than ever!

things that thrill my heart... is a collection of things that interest and inspire me. From missing my home in Melbourne, to our new adventure in Kathmandu - and everything that falls in between!

Hey Mama!

She is pretty much about to burst with her second child, but yet Nicole Richie looks damn fine sporting a kimono style cover up, and is definitely working that baby bump! Her tweets are pretty funny at the moment in the lead up to giving birth...but I'm really hanging out for the name she decides to bestow upon her new bub. Will find out anyday now!

Art with Real Heart

>> Tuesday, August 11, 2009

Australian women's magazine, Madison, has released an exclusive range of fairytale prints to raise money for the Make-A-Wish Foundation, Australia. The illustrations are by Rebecca Wetzler, with the fairytale leading ladies wearing designs by some great designers: Cinderella dressed by Alex Perry, Sleeping Beauty by Lisa Ho, Rapunzel by Collette Dinnigan, Snow White by J’Aton Couture, and The Princess and the Pea by Toni Maticevski.

100% of profits will go to the Make-A-Wish Foundation, so maybe you should mossey on over here and buy one!

This is being done in a similar fashion (no pun intended!) to Sass & Bide's Shine Collection of artwork with proceeds going to the child focused organisation, Barnados.

I am all for raising money for a good cause at the moment, as I'm organising to raise some money while trekking to Everest Base Camp next year. I know, I'm not going to the top, but still! Details to come...

Is it a sandal? A pair of trainers? Or wedges?

>> Monday, August 10, 2009

When I first saw this shoe, I wasn't sure what to think! But DKNY are certainly trying to create versatility in this sandal/wedge/trainer. Only problem is, I wouldn't know whether to wear it to the beach/shopping/gym! This shoe probably won't be making an appearance on my 'must have' list...

However, on the other hand, I love these colourful Antik Batik beaded gladiator sandals...Mmm I want!

Kittens in the Kitchen

>> Sunday, August 9, 2009

A week ago we adopted 2 2-week old kittens from a wildcat since the mother was getting frisky and was on her way to having another litter! They are so little and are pretty much taking over our lives because of their curiousity, and seem to think that my bare legs are a scratching pole! At the moment they are loving exploring the kitchen and keep finding their way into the back of the fridge which we have to fish them out of! Anyways, here are some pics of the cuties reading Elle magazine with me. They especially love the perfume smelly samples!

Would you wear a 'bum' on your chest?

Flick Watch

>> Wednesday, August 5, 2009

Here are two movies that I'm really looking forward to seeing...they are completely different in theme but still have me excited!

The first is Paper Heart, a documentary style story about a girl who doesn't believe in love. It looks so cute! Stars Michael Cera from Napoleon Dynamite and is out in cinemas in the U.S. August 7th.

The second movie I want to see is The September Issue. "It tells the story of legendary Vogue editor in chief Anna Wintour and her larger-than-life team of editors creating the issue and ruling the world of fashion." I want to see behind the scenes what it is they put into Vogue, that makes it what it is today. Out in the U.S. 28th August!

I love the line by Anna about how the title is too large, "it's like its made for blind people."

I love Monday mornings

>> Monday, August 3, 2009

Now that's Monday mornings, I still can't stand Mondays (emphasis on day).

Yesterday, our internet was cut because we didn't pay the bill on the first of the month (my bad!). Luckily, we have two very active kittens that kept me busy and took my attention from feeling the need to check my Twitter, Facebook and Blogger every 2 seconds. But then this morning (despite being woken by the kittens at 5am), I was excited to get to work and hop on the net to find so much cool and wonderful things were happening in the blog world while I was 'disconnected'. I know it was probably less than 24 hours but so much happens on the web during that time! Especially on weekends when everyone has more time to post stuff. Anyway, I realised that it's not such a bad thing to check the interweb every couple of days because then you can dedicate a chunk of time to just browse, gaze and ohh and ahh at the computer screen...it always seems more enjoyable than checking it every minute and being disappointed no one has posted anything new.

What do you all think? Better to check every once in a while, or to keep up with the beat every hour or so?

p.s. I am currently loving this photostream on flickr, clumsy bird
