Leaving for the EBC

So by the time you read this I will be in a town called Lukla, about to start our ascent to Everest Base Camp. So scary saying that! But I apologize for my lack of blogging while I'm away. I will schedule some blog posts however, but if you want to keep up with the trek and see how me and the team are going, following along at www.movingmountainsnepal.blogspot.com.

Keep well while I'm gone!

tuula

Don't you love it when you find a gem in the most unexpected place?
During my weekly perusal of eBay (my most favourite online shopping site!), I was looking for a pair of bikini's (Zimmermann, if you must know), and came across a vintage online store called tuula. It has a beautiful collection and the model in the photos is the owner, Jessica who has picked up clothing from around the place such as London, Europe and of course, home which is Australia.
I then went and visited her tuula blog, which has beautifully styled photographs that really sell the clothes! She says that she has itchy feet, and is planning another trip to London and the rest of Europe. I think she should join my itchy feet club!
Definitely adding this eBay store to my favourites.

Tell me this video doesn't inspire you and make you want to get on a plane to this magical place?

It also keeps you in suspense as to where this enchanting place is...I was thinking Thailand? Malaysia? Philippines? But no, it's Sri Lanka and boy has it moved up the ranks on my travel list!

The Harvest. Film trailer. from LOVER® on Vimeo.

I am enchanted by this mini film by Lover. Maybe more so because it reminds me of times in country Australia, where lots of wonderful childhood memories are based.

I am also very enchanted by this dress. Current obsession, lace.

Black Buttons

>> Tuesday, March 23, 2010

When I want some thing, I want it and it is very hard for me to settle for second best. Like a couple of winter's ago I wanted a nice black wool coat with gold buttons, and if I didn't find one I was willing to just freeze my butt off. Those were my options! Anyways, for some reason this year I want a beige trench coat with black buttons. Black buttons, can you hear me!? Well lucky I don't have to turn the world upside down trying to find a trench with black buttons, Mango just popped it right in front of me!
Now the trick is...how do I get myself to a Mango store from here in Kathmandu?!

Banyan Trees

>> Saturday, March 20, 2010

I went down to the Indian border for the past couple of days to a town called Butwal and the road from the border was lined with beautiful banyan trees that had some wonderful character. There is something magical and whimsical about their large sparse roots and also protective with is umbrella like branches and thick foliage. Anyways, I didn't get a photo of them (we were zooming by too fast - typical Asian style), but here are some random ones I found around that gave me some inspiration...

On Top of the World for a Cause

Something a little bit different today...

I'm going to the foot of the tallest mountain in the world.

Just saying that scares me! In two weeks time, me and a group of friends will start trekking to Everest Base Camp for charity. We've been buying all our sleeping bags and down jackets (because it's going to be FREEZING!), and have been talking to lots of people for advice so that we can maximize our chances of reaching Base Camp (it's a pretty strenuous walk, lots of people get altitude sickness or food poisoning and never even make the end of the track).

I have to admit, I have been training very hard so I'll be the tail on the end of the group, but thank the Lord for wonderful porters and Sherpas who will be helping me carry my bag (and possibly me by the end of it!).

What is this all for you may ask? Well it's for the Adventist Development and Relief Agency (ADRA) who are working here in Nepal. By doing this trek we hope to raise money and awareness for a project to train women with leadership skills so they can be able to improve the world they live in. Pretty worthy cause I think, girl power! But seriously, Nepal is one of the poorest countries in the world and they really need all the help they can get so hence this little adventure to Everest! We've called our campaign, Move Mountains, because that's what we're trying to do. It's a very fitting name don't you think?

Anyways, I'm babbling too much. Help the women of Nepal out and check out my personal fundraising site here and donate if you can :)

What's on my mind

>> Monday, March 15, 2010

Photobucket
Can you guess what has been on my mind this past weekend? I just finished reading 'Almost French' by Sarah Turnbull about life in Paris. It was such an eye opener and has mentally prepared me for France and French people. Then, while reading it, I subconsciously began planning outfits to wear in Paris...and we haven't even booked flights yet!

I am such a forward thinker...

Oohh pretty dresses...

>> Thursday, March 11, 2010

I apologize for jumping on the Oscar bandwagon, but who can pass up looking at photos of celebs in beautiful dresses and not pick out who dressed the best!? Well, I know I can't, so let's say this post is for my own personal reference...

My absolute FAVOURITE was Zoe Saldana. I love the burst of colour and the ruffles, she looked stunning! Kudos to Givenchy. I found Rachel McAdams, Elie Saab floral dress refreshing amongst the stock of satin and silk gowns, maybe a bit casual for the Oscars, but still beautiful!
Loved Miley Cyrus's classic dress by Jenny PackmanZoe Kravitz is gorgeous channeling old Hollywood glamourAnd lastly, Sandra Bullock who I think is so deserving of her Oscar award. It has been long overdue for her and she really did a brilliant job in 'The Blind Side' (you must see it if you haven't!). My favourite actress since I watched Speed on the plane to Los Angeles when I was 7 years old.
Ok, and now because I love photos of celebrities relaxed and having fun: the Oscar after parties...

And to a pretty place we go...

"I wonder if I've been changed in the night? Let me think. Was I the same when I got up this morning? I almost think I can remember feeling a little different. But if I'm not the same, the next question is 'Who in the world am I?' " - Alice in Wonderland
I can't wait to see Alice in Wonderland and it's wonderful cast! It just opened in cinemas so I should be able to see it in a couple of weeks :)

I promised my self that I was not going to blog about fashion this week, just to keep my head from overloading on all the pretty clothes in the world! So instead, some beautiful calming pictures to start the week on a soft and easy note...

It's a thing called Spring

>> Friday, March 5, 2010

We are currently in that 3 months of the year where my optimism is at it's peak. Pessimism is squashed to the ground and I think I can do everything and be anything I want to be. The skies the limit! All of a sudden everything has turned into technicolor, just like when Dorothy landed in Oz (I always thought the TV wasn't working properly when they were in Kansas). I feel like the world is a great place where nothing can go wrong (ignorance or short term naiveté kicking in?!). All of this because of a thing called, Spring.

The sun is always shining and people being to spill out onto the streets (most of which are doing a lot of exercise!). Is it the flowers blossoming? The pollen in the air? I don't know, but whatever it is, without Spring life would be like a long gray winter of hibernation.

I think a really great way to celebrate Spring would be with these Miu Miu-Cork and Leather Wedge Sandals. Hrmm, a great way to celebrate I think!!

Happy Weekend :)

Jewelery Trees

My jewelery is currently living in a jewelery box, mixed and tangled like spaghetti. It's an ugly scene, but these jewelry stands by Urban Outfitters makes me feel better...

My favourites are left top and middle. I think the ring umbrella would be very handy!

I am totally gushing over Witchery's Autumn/Winter 2010 'online paper'. It's so beautiful and almost Zara-like. I'm so torn between the beautiful Autumn/Winter lookbooks and catalogues coming from Australian stores and the Spring/Summer ones coming from the Northern Hemisphere!

Do I stay loyal with my home hemisphere? Or be up to date and on trend with the North? What to do, what to do...Witchery

Mustard?

>> Monday, March 1, 2010

A couple of years ago I remember mustard cardigans, t-shirts and knitted stuff in nearly every single cheap chain store in Australia, and I was revolted! I thought it was disgusting. A color that suits only a handful of people be made available to any trend obsessed, fashion fiend is destined for disaster! I even remember one of my good friend's boyfriend saying to her that if she wore her mustard cardigan again he would break up with her! I promised myself to never ever wear it, and filed it in the 'don't wear runners with jeans' folder.

But alas, I've been proven wrong. Mustard CAN look good...

I'm back form the jungle everyone! Had a great time away from the big smoke, but glad to be reunited with my computer :)

Happy Monday everyone!
