Bono + wife Ali + LV

>> Friday, September 24, 2010

Despite some criticisms, I love this collaboration between Bono and wife, Ali Hewson 's ethical clothing label, Edun, and Louis Vuitton. It is suppose to bring 'international exposure' to Edun's mission to eradicate poverty through sustainable enterprise in Africa.

Photographed by the remarkable Annie Leibovitz, the campaign continues LV's popular travel themed ads into Africa with the tag line, "Every journey begins in Africa" which is also etched onto the special edition Keepall style embossed in monogram canvas, and with a special charm hanging off of it. Proceeds from sales of the bag will go to TechnoServe and the Cotton Initiative.

I love a good cause, especially when a luxury brand is involved. But I often wonder, does the fact that the profits made on the bag go to charity, drive sales further or hinder it? There's a question to ponder...

I've realised I really love blog titles with equations lately! Funny thing is, I hate maths!

CHANEL Sport

>> Monday, July 19, 2010

Do you get The Zoe Report in your inbox? I do, and Zoe reminded me of Chanel's luxe sports range last week which really blows my mind away. Do I want nearly every single piece in the range (ok, maybe just one surfboard will do)? Yes I do! And as an avid basket baller player from way back, I am about to put the Chanel basketball on my birthday wish list so I can hang it on my wall :)

I really love that quilted satchel on the bike too ;)

Spring @ Portmans

>> Friday, October 9, 2009

I am so confused with this whole Southern/Northern Hemisphere thing. I don't know which clothes to buy and where to wear them. Bikinis? Coats? Beach? Snow? Ugh! And I just topped up on some great winter buys in the Middle East and realised, well that's no use I'm going to Summer in Australia soon...

Anyways, Portmans (from Aus) seem to be doing good things this Spring/Summer. I was so turned off them last year, so I'm glad to see their back on track. Here are a few faves from their new stuff.

But I have one question, what is with Cassie's lip? It's like a botox job gone fishy?

A Letter

>> Thursday, October 8, 2009

Dear Kikki.K,

Thank you for emailing me and informing me of the latest 2010 diaries and calendars. I'm glad that you've reminded me that 2009 is coming to an end. Well, actually, I'm not glad because it kinda stresses me out. You see, there are only 2.5 months left of 2009 which I have just realised because I lacked in buying one of your diaries at the beginning of the year, coz you know, I was getting married and moving to Nepal kinda thang. Although, maybe if I had one of your diaries the whole wedding and moving thing might've been easier, and maybe I would've kept better track of this year.

So now, thanks to your email I am planning well in advance and have put one of your diaries at the top of my 'Australia' shopping list. Now, the only problem is deciding which one...

Yours truly,

Beryl x

Petal Power

>> Tuesday, July 14, 2009

Just for today, I thought I'd switch to Southern Hemisphere mode and mentally prepare myself for the upcoming Spring season 'down under'. Apparently here in Kathmandu we are coming into Spring too, with the months of September/October being just as beautiful as March/April. And as spring blooms (I couldn't help myself with the lame pun), so does the flower fusion of prints and accessories. Here are some of my floral inspired faves I've seen around the place...

Rebecca Minkoff Handbags

>> Friday, July 3, 2009

While I'm one the subject of shoes, which really go hand in hand with bags, I thought I'd make a visit to Rebecca Minkoff's website to see what all the hoo haa is about and checked out her range of handbags. I was stumped, I couldn't pick one bag that I liked over the rest - so as one does when they can't choose, they buy them all (I wish), a girl really can never have enough handbags...

Can buy them online at shopbop.com or revolveclothing.com

The Curious Case of Buttons

>> Wednesday, July 1, 2009

I am still reveling in excitement from my visit to the craft shop yesterday. I have always loved craft shops, in Australia and anywhere else in the world, but the only problem is that I never seem to have the time to sit down and indulge myself in the actual craft-making. At the craft shop I saw hand-twined pieces of rope, handmade paper, hand carved brass pendants, and my favourite: little buttons that looked like pieces from a tree trunk, buttons that were shaped into elephants, rhinos and jewels, some even with Buddha's face on them!

I realized that I really love buttons. Buttons on clothing can be a determining factor in my decision of purchase. And BIG buttons...well they sell me every time! So now I am going to buy a pack of these wooden style buttons to put on our wedding Thank You cards, just because I love buttons!

P.S. a big thank you to everyone that follows me on twitter! I have reached 100 followers! I never knew I could be excited about such a thing! But, thanks :)
And if you happen to receive Michi Girl excitement in your inbox daily, I promise that I came up with the title first!

Lists of Lists

>> Tuesday, June 30, 2009

I just came back from our local paper & craft shop, Lokta, because my husband and I's wedding Thank You cards are well over due and we will be getting them printed there. But while I was in the store I made a very big mental list of all the Nepali trinkets and souvenirs I need to buy before we go back to the dear shores of Australia.

Here are some of the few things:
♣ A photo album with handmade paper pages
♣ An antique Tibetan jewelery box (see my blog post on them here)
♣ Screen printed Nepali prints to be framed
♣ Many handmade paper lamp shades
♣ Lots of journals made from handmade paper
♣ A woven rattan seat
Don't ask me how they are going to fit in one suitcase...

Snow Dreamin'

>> Tuesday, June 2, 2009

I love the snow and am a little sad that I'm missing out on the current Southern Hemisphere winter. I'm missing out on buying some new things for my winter wardrobe and I'm missing my gorgeous Burton snowboard boots (and snowboarding too for that matter)...

But I saw these very cute winter accessories by Chanel and Louis Vuitton over in one of Grazia's slideshow's. If I lived the glamorous life I would definitely own these things, especially the Chanel ski's - not that I know how to ski...

the keys to my heart?

tiffany.
mmmm! just the word alone makes me think of blue boxed packages tied up with string, now this is one of my favourite things... woops, i think i got a bit confused with a musical about a family singing in the Austrian alps (which is my all time favourite movie by the way).
but beauty is definately found in these gorgeous key pendants brimming with intrigue and allure...
now i took tiffany's suggestion to mix and match and design my own 'look', so are a few pendants that i would love to treasure...
