Wedding Dress Heaven

>> Wednesday, October 28, 2009

Every where I look on Facebook, everyone is getting married! I guess I'm just at that stage in my life where it's happening all around me. Luckily I'm already married and beat the rush!

But then I saw this Gown Gallery by Vera Wang and almost rang my husband to tell him that we need to have the wedding again. I am just swooning over these dresses!! I've realised how much my style has changed since I was looking at dresses for my wedding. Here are some of my faves...

For anyone that reads my blog, is this happening in your life at the moment? Isn't it crazy? Next everyone will be popping out babies and I'll begin to attend baby showers like in this episode of Sex & the City which I watched last night and scared me silly!

Vintage Look Love

>> Tuesday, October 27, 2009

My new favourite blog for vintage look love!

The blog is Liebemarlene Vintage and I'm not even sure how I stumbled across it. The photos are brilliant and so is her style! I'm not super into vintage but I love echoing it in what I wear sometimes and Rhiannon and her blog is the perfect Fall inspiration.
Rhiannon very muchly reminds me of Zooey Deschanel who is my current obsession after watching 500 Days of Summer (finally found a pirated copy around Kathmandu!).
She even has an eBay store, so if you want to buy some of the stuff she wear you can find it here and visit her website here.

My Dream Job

>> Wednesday, October 21, 2009

My dream job, ever since early highschool, is to be a travel reporter or some sort of foreign correspondent journalist. It's still one of my big all-time goals and hopefully one day I'll get to do it!

I've joined up to CNN's ireport and posted up a short story with some pictures I took of Nepal's Diwali festival.

I got an email last night from one of the shows producers that they may be interested in showing it on their ireport program. FINGERS CROSSED!!

Celebrate Light

>> Monday, October 19, 2009

At the moment across Nepal and India is the Festival of Lights, also known as Diwali.
Looking out across Kathmandu from our rooftop at night - the view is a spectacular sight of flashing lights and candles lighting the nights sky. It really is beautiful! So in light of this occassion (no pun intended) I thought I'd search through flickr and be inspired by the beauty of lights....

I also just found out that I get 2 days off work so this light festival works out to be even better =)click to link photo's to their source...

Save the Rainforest

I am a lover of the environment and all things animals and really think it's important to think about the effect our actions have on everything that surrounds us, and it shouldn't just stop there. We should also take an extra moment and think what and where the resources are coming from for whatever it is we're buying, creating etc. When you do think about it, it's actually kind of scary to think that we could potentially have no food? Not enough water? And no animals? I don't know about you, but I don't want to live in a world like that and nor do I want to contribute to it.

Here is my favourite warm & fuzzy commercial for this week. I know, it actually kind of makes you feel guilty, but it is such a great reminder...

Watching... Thank God You're Here - so hilarious!
Eating...
mm just finished eating 2-minute noodles - oh what exquisite cuisine!
Reading... 'Three Cups of Tea' by Greg Mortenson & David Oliver Relin about a man's journey through rural Pakistan, and then later building hundreds of schools for the children who had no access to education - inspiring.
Listening... to my kittens knocking stuff over and playing with all sorts of things...currently it's a pencil they broke in half!
Wanting... to go back to Qatar, to go shopping and to some warm weather! Winter has come early in Kathmandu...
Excited about... going HOME to Australia in 9 weeks!

dreamy image that reminds me that we're going through Fall at the moment...

I have been catching up on the latest episodes of Gossip Girl, and totally fell in love with this Rag & Bone Justine Dress that Blake Lively a.k.a Serena wears in the first episode of Season 3. It's so beautiful and would be perfect for the upcoming Aussie summer! Too bad its all sold out on shopbop :(

Grey Walls

How pretty is this headboard? But if you look beyond that, the grey walls are what have caught my eye.

It looks great with the white frame/edge things (anyone know the name?). A really simple wall decoration, I love it!

I'm saving all these ideas for that one day my husband and I will own a house and will hopefully build and decorate it from scratch.

Spring @ Portmans

>> Friday, October 9, 2009

I am so confused with this whole Southern/Northern Hemisphere thing. I don't know which clothes to buy and where to wear them. Bikinis? Coats? Beach? Snow? Ugh! And I just topped up on some great winter buys in the Middle East and realised, well that's no use I'm going to Summer in Australia soon...

Anyways, Portmans (from Aus) seem to be doing good things this Spring/Summer. I was so turned off them last year, so I'm glad to see their back on track. Here are a few faves from their new stuff.

But I have one question, what is with Cassie's lip? It's like a botox job gone fishy?

A Letter

Dear Kikki.K,

Thank you for emailing me and informing me of the latest 2010 diaries and calendars. I'm glad that you've reminded me that 2009 is coming to an end. Well, actually, I'm not glad because it kinda stresses me out. You see, there are only 2.5 months left of 2009 which I have just realised because I lacked in buying one of your diaries at the beginning of the year, coz you know, I was getting married and moving to Nepal kinda thang. Although, maybe if I had one of your diaries the whole wedding and moving thing might've been easier, and maybe I would've kept better track of this year.

So now, thanks to your email I am planning well in advance and have put one of your diaries at the top of my 'Australia' shopping list. Now, the only problem is deciding which one...

Yours truly,

Beryl x

I Need a White Shirt

I love causes in which I buy something, and 100% of my purchase will go directly to the cause. I think of it like donating money and getting something for free.

So here is my latest cause that I will be supporting, the White Shirt Collection for Ovarian Cancer Research by Witchery.

Everyone needs at least one white shirt right?
Check out more on the Ovarian Cancer Research Foundation and Witchery's cooperation here.

Isn't my husband a treasure?

He knows just what I'm looking for and what catches my eye, so he saved this image on our desktop knowing that I would smile and make ohh-ing and ahh-ing noises at it. I think this gold wallpaper would look wonderful in a future house of ours.

It's a finalist in the 2009 Turner Prize. A British competition which is awarded to the best visual artist under the age of 50.

But my husband should also probably learn that when I see something I like...I also ask if he can buy it for me.

Sharq Village & Spa

>> Tuesday, October 6, 2009

The most memorable part of our trip was being treated a night in the 5 star resort, Sharq Village & Spa as a belated wedding present from my cousins. And I'm sure my husband would agree with me in saying that it was the best wedding present!
The Sharq is only 2 years old and cost $450 million to make (Yep I was shocked at the price too), and is run by the swanky Ritz-Carlton. Now, I've never been in a 5 star resort before, so much as a 4 star (as far as I can recall?) so this was a whole new experience for me and I felt incredibly under-dressed from the moment we walked in.
The foyer was amazingly decked out with crystals chandeliers and furry rugs and a marble floor. There were Arabian men & women gracefully floating around in their flowing Dishdashah's and Hijab's. It felt like we were amongst royalty.
There were 12 villas, in which were about 8 or 9 rooms and each villa had their own butler. Our room looked out towards the chilled pools (I know! Chilled pools! Well I guess you have to have that in the desert), and beyond the pools was the warm waters of the beach.
There were 5 things that I especially LOVED about our room, which left me wishing we could live in it:
1. It was right next to the pool
2. The shower was super pressurized and had steaming hot water on tap
3. There were Bvlgari toiletries in the bathroom which smelled delicious
4. The bed and sheets were the softest, most comfortable-ist things I have ever laid my body to rest in
5. My husband was there to share it all with me

It was a truly magical experience, and we are so thankful to my cousins for giving us the opportunity.

If you ever want to experience luxury, spend a night at the Sharq.
